What You Will Learn?

The power sector is a large and complex ecosystem consisting of generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity from various sources like fossil fuels, coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy. India is the third-largest producer and consumer of electricity, with a capacity of 446 gigawatts as of June 30, 2024. Renewable energy, particularly solar, is growing rapidly, representing 45% of India's overall installed power capacity, and is expected to increase to 600 gigawatts by FY27.

The growth in India's power sector is driven by urbanization, higher penetration of air conditioners, scaling up of manufacturing facilities, and improving paying capability of end customers. The peak power demand is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% over FY24 to 32 and reach 366 gigawatts. Major power companies in India, such as NTPC, Power Grid, Adani Green Energy , Adani Power, and Tata Power, are discussed as investment opportunities. These companies have significant market shares and roles in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, with NTPC generating 91% of its revenue from bulk power sale and Power Grid responsible for moving power from generation areas to load centers.

Adani Green Energy is India's largest renewable power producer, while Adani Power is India's largest thermal power producer, and Tata Power is an integrated company involved in generation, transmission, and distribution. JSW Energy, Adani Energy Solution, NHPC, SJVN, CSE, and Kalpataru Power are also mentioned as potential investment opportunities. Bajaj emphasizes the importance of combining both Trading View and Stockedge platforms for data and watchlist capabilities and encourages viewers to track these companies for potential benefits.
